Our Juniors Are Our Future
If you look on the junior championship board in the foyer you will see many names that are still wandering around the bar on Wednesday and Saturday race days.
Our juniors will be our seniors and we want to do everything we can to help them find the same enjoyment so many of our seniors experienced on their journey.
BJ Marine Junior Participation Reward
We are delight to confirm that BJ Marine have embraced the challenge of supporting junior sailing and have come on-board as sponsors of our junior Wed/Sat participation rewards.
Each month from June to Aug there will be an IPad or similar prize for the juniors participating in Wed and Sat racing . You don’t have to win the race to win the IPad. Any junior starting 4 or more race days Wed/Sat within the month will be entered in a draw for the coveted monthly prize.
The Sunday junior racing is a huge success and a great transitioning route from training to Wed/Sat participation. A number of our senior and international sailors have volunteered to add further support to the programme and come down to coach, video and advise our ever growing Sunday fleet.
Our focus is to help junior trainees transition into racing and that starts with getting the very best Senior Instructor possible.
We are delighted to announce that Karl Brady has agreed to come on board as our Senior Instructor for 2017.
Karl’s impressive CV includes the Royal ST George Yacht Club in 2016 preceded by 3 years as SI in Howth. His winters have been spent as SI in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong. Karl has a Higher National diploma in youth outdoor adventure management.
Of course to ensure fleet equality we are happy to advise Karl is also a qualified keelboat instructor both through the ISA and Yachting Australia and will be offering support to all club sailors.
Junior Training course
For us junior training is about quality rather than quantity and with a growing demand for training that can be a delicate balance. We need to keep our courses to a size that guarantees all trainees the best possible experience and the maximum personal assistance. The Junior courses will be limited to 50 trainees per course and preference understandably will be given to members . Courses will be open to anybody that wants their children to experience sailing but until March 24th applications will be open to members initially.
